Review: Coils by Bombers Coils

Review: Coils by Bombers Coils

I’ve got some more coils up for review for you guys today. I’m beginning to notice more and more coil makers appearing in Australia, which is a great thing, where once we were stuck ordering from overseas.

Some of these are total works of art, and give us every day vapers an opportunity to enjoy the enhanced flavour that the extended surface area of these coils provide while not needing to get out in the shed and destroy our hands trying to wind these ourselves!

You’ll typically install these in an RTA (Rebuildable Tank Atomizer) or an RDA (Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer) where you have the freedom to install the coils using whatever clamp system the individual atomizer provides.

For a quick rundown on how to install them please see this YouTube video. (https://youtu.be/a1taGMrb_d4)

Today’s coils come from a new coil maker, based in Adelaide, South Australia, each one is hand-crafted from the finest Sandvik Wire (Sandvik invented Kanthal and hold the trademark for it) and comes with a little extra length so you can add an additional wind if needed.

Today we’re taking a look at “Bombers Coils”.
(These coils were provided by the vendor for the purpose of review)

The Review:

I’m typically a single coil/single battery squonker, so will usually use standard round wire builds in my RDA’s (best for ramp up), so its a little exciting for me to review some fancy coils, specially now that I’ve found some that are perfect for my style of vaping (AK Coils)! I do also like to get my big boy mods out from time to time too, an equally exciting opportunity to run them through their paces with some killer dual coil setups!

Longevity is a huge part and a good measure of a coil. Dodgy metals in the wire, or cheap shortcuts will quickly show themselves with wear and tear and fast degradation of the coil. Knowing that, I’ve made sure to run these coils for a number of weeks to make sure they are as good as I think they are.

And they totally are. Every set of Bombers coils is strong, spot on it’s resistance range, easy to build, difficult to distort, and last a really really long time.
I’ve really put these coils through their paces and they are still going strong, after weeks of different juices (some containing crazy amounts of sweeteners) and just as many dry burns and rewicks.
( I change my wicks and dry burn on average twice per day, these things have been put through their paces! )

Build quality

The quality of these builds is flawless. Not one loop out of place, not one outerwire protruding, outer winds are not larger than inner winds, legs are well clipped, these are really well built. I don’t know if Bombers have a quality process in their workshop, but they don’t seem to let anything through unless of the absolute highest calibre.

Building with these coils was a breeze, they don’t have a lot of give, so are easily thrown around without getting distorted, and require minimal toying with them on their first dry fire, a few flicks with my tweezers, had them glowing from the inside out without hotspots almost straight away.

Resistance Accuracy

The resistance accuracy of these coils is fantastic, the resistance measurements on each little tin, were spot on, I couldn’t fault them. I actually did expect there to be a little bit of movement there, but that was not happening. Spot on, each set.

The one thing that I noticed about Bombers Coils, is their resistance measurement. Where it’s expected that you would use x2 coils in a build, Bombers marks the coils resistance as their combined reading.
For example if you have x2 ‘C4’ coils that would normally be approximately 0.19 ohm each, they are marked as 0.09-0.11 ohms ‘for the pair’.
As a further example, ‘AK’ coils are designed with single coil users in mind, so the resistance on the box is 0.18-0.2 ohms which is the actual resistance of ‘one’ single coil.

This is quite good, as you don’t really have to do any calculations on your own, you just go by what it says on the tin. If you’re looking to build at 0.10 ohms, you can pick up a pair that are rated at that, and you’ll get what you need. It could be confusing for those who are used to purchasing coils where their resistance is displayed on a ‘per coil’ basis, and familiar with having to halve the resistance to get the correct measurement for a dual coil setup.

Great taste

If the longevity of these coils doesn’t convince you, the great taste will. The increased flavour from the extra surface area of these coils is a huge plus. I am getting twice the flavour from the AK coil that I have in my daily setup than I was ever getting from a round wire build.
I’m also getting a much better hit too. Where my standard round wire was giving me a pretty quick ramp up, it was also holding at a higher temp for longer too, giving a fairly lack lustre vape. I’ve found that the extra wire in the AK coil really is giving me a punchier hit.

Where to Buy

You can pick up “Bombers Coils” by contacting them directly through their facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/Bombers-Coils-384198575357680/) or from Vapen (https://vapen.com.au/products/bombers-pre-made-coils), who stock them in their store as well.

Final Thoughts:

Great quality coils, and at a fantastic price (around $12 per set), you can’t go wrong with these new kids on the block. Bombers coils are built tough, with attention to detail, using top notch wire, and to fantastic quality standards.

If you like to run advanced coils in your rebuildables, give these guys a shot. You won’t regret it!

Disclaimer:

Pre-made coils such as these are recommended for advanced users, you should always build and check your resistance using a reliable ohm reader, and every care should be taken to avoid putting low builds on devices where you may go below your battery’s maximum amperage.
