eJuice Review 366: Black Honey by Redback Vapery

I’m not a huge fan of tobacco vapes, but I do have to admit, if I am vaping a tobacco, a sweet pipe tobacco or roll your own flavour is my preference. Redback Vapery have a few tobacco flavours in their range, and if my first review is something to go by, I’m expecting some pretty big things.

Today, I’ll be reviewing “Black Honey” by Redback Vapery.

(This eliquid was supplied by the vendor.)

Flavour Description

By capturing the sweet, complex flavour of the finest pipe tobacco blends, Black Honey Tobacco is one of our more mellow tobacco flavours.

The Review:

Black Honey Tobacco is one of those polarizing flavours, some love it some hate it. What Redback Vapery have done with this flavour however, really is impressive. I’ve always felt that Black Honey is one of those flavours that you vape with your feet up at the end of the day, straight up whiskey in hand, just enjoying the smokiness and rich sweet notes of the honey tobacco and spices, this is definitely one of those juices.

“Black Honey” is an up front sweet honey flavour, with backnotes of licorice/anise and an underlying smokey tobacco throughout the entire vape.

Individual Notes

The honey here is difficult to pick, I can’t really pin point which type of honey this is, but it is accompanied by a few spices and a licorice note.

The licorice, is also another one that is difficult to define, it’s not a dry licorice or even a fresh stronger licorice, more licorice spices added to the mix adding a little bit of complexity, without coming through as it’s own distinct flavour.

The tobacco is quite a smokey dry tobacco, very much a pipe tobacco, strong and lasting. I want to say that it is woody, but it is a little dryer than that. Somewhere between being the smoker, and smelling someone elses smoke.

Inhale & Exhale

The inhale is primarily a sweet honey note, richer than most, and quite a strong flavour, along with the honey there is also a very quiet backnote of licorice or aniseed here, creating quite the impact. It is more of a natural licorice than a refined sweet, with an almost plant based feel to it.

At the turn of the inhale and onto the exhale, the rich honey notes remain, but the licorice backnote becomes a little stronger, smoothly building a little depth and rounding things out. At this point, a wave of smokey tobacco appears washing over the honey and licorice, bringing the exhale to quite a rich and smokey finish.

Final thoughts

For a tobacco, this is quite a sweet and strong flavour, I’ve enjoyed it quite a bit. It is layered a little, with more complexity than most and I’m definitely finding this one a flavour to enjoy while relaxing, but it is also equally as good as an all day vape. Once you vape it for a while the honey becomes less noticeable, and the smokey tobacco becomes more apparent.

A rich and complex flavour, tobacco affiicianos will love!

Presentation:

Quite nice presentation here. I received 30ml stubby chubby gorilla bottles with childproof caps, and needle tip nozzles. Some of the bottles are clear, others are smokey grey clear with the Redback Vapery label firmly affixed. The labels are white with splashes of colour, the liquid name, company logo, bottle size and vg/pg ratio. I would have like to see some warnings or standard ingredients list on here, the information on the labels is a little sparse.

Test rigs:

Haku with slam cap running a single 0.17 framed staple coil on a mech mod.
OBS Engine RTA with a 0.2ohm Stainless coil running @ approx 50-80 watts.
