Hardware Review: eCigar by Apollo Ecigs

Hardware Review: eCigar by Apollo Ecigs

Apollo Ecigs recently reached out to me to see if I’d take a look at some of their hardware and juices.

I had heard of the company, but not a lot, so I went digging 🙂 As it turns out Apollo Ecigs have their very own brand of vaping products. Not clones, nor rebranded hardware, it’s all 100% original, so I thought, why not!

They are based in California, USA, where they have lab and manufactering facilities as well as a head office, and vape lounge. They also market to the UK through their own seperate UK based website.

Quite an impressive setup.

For their first hardware review, Ive chosen the eCigar to get the ball rolling.

The Review

On opening the box Im presented with this pretty realistic looking cigar. Sure it’s plastic, and it’s a vapourizer so there are limits to how realistic it can be, but the wrapping of the body is very cigar like both in colour and pattern used, even the wrapping is in thin strips and overlapped. Some nice detail there.

One end is simply a hole covered by a security seal sticker, which is peeled off when you are ready to use the device, at the other end is a plastic moulding that looks like the ash end of the cigar which lights up as you drag on it.

There are no buttons here, this device is automatic, meaning, it fires when you drag on it. Also, this is a disposable item, good for up to 1500 puffs, and you throw it away.

The size of it is very true to the real thing, with dimensions being 153mm long x 18.5mm in diameter ( coincidently the same diameter as an 18650 battery ).

It has a little heft to it, so letting it rest in your mouth won’t work, between the teeth, perhaps, but it is still fairly lightweight at only 9 grams and a non issue to carry around.

Airflow

The airflow of the Apollo Ecigs eCigar is not completely open, more of a slightly restricted draw, you wouldnt want the draw to have any more airflow however, due to the diameter of it, it would make it difficult to create enough suction to use it properly.

Vapour

There’s not a lot of vapour to this one. While it’s not a hugely powerful device it puts out a decent amount for its battery size. The amount of vapour that is created is proportionate to what a cigar smoker will exhale, so a lot of vapour would be a little overkill and totally unrealistic.

Battery Life

The battery life seems quite good. The eCigar is advertised as having a 1300mah battery and good for up to 1500 puffs. That seems about right, and is plenty for a disposable device. I imagine it would take a few days of full on use, before you manage to run this down low enough, at which point the power will drop off considerably.

Flavour

The flavour that is used in this is phenominal. It really is very similar to how I remember a cigar tasting, and all without the leftover smell on your breath and clothing.
I’d describe it as a smokey tobacco, with a hint of pipe, but an earthy warmth, and a well rounded full cigar flavour.

Pros:

– Feels good in hand
– Looks realistic
– Fantastic realistic Cigar flavour
– Decent battery life

Cons:

– Disposable.
– Not cheap
– A little low powered

Conclusion

I’m quite impressed by this little throwaway cigar, it’s definately going to be a hit for its novelty value. I’m not really sure a cigar smoker would take to it but you never know, the fact that it’s using a pretty realistic cigar flavour might just sway some to using it rather than the real thing.

At $14.95, its reasonably priced, not cheap, but also not overly expensive and with bulk discount I’m sure the pricing would come down. Apollo Ecigs currently have a “Buy 5 and get 1 free” deal going on also.

Would I use it if I were a cigar smoker? Totally! I think it definately bridges that gap, and being a simple no button, disposable device also removes any learning curve that often confuses new vaper’s.

If you’re looking at getting off of the cigars, fancy a bit of a novelty or just want to give one a go, do it, you’ll be pleasantly surprised!
