eJuice Review 301: Pavlova by Bunyip Vapes

eJuice Review 301: Pavlova by Bunyip Vapes

Next up from the review box comes another flavour from one of the newer juice makers on the scene. I was really impressed with their first flavour “Passionfruit Lemon Cake”, it ticked all the boxes, and is a delicious vape.

Bunyip Vapes have now released another 4 flavours, and they’ll each be up for review shortly.

But for today…

I’ll be reviewing, “Pavlova”!

This juice was supplied by the vendor.

From the website:

A delightful medley of Strawberry, Kiwi and Passionfruit on a bed of toasted meringue and rich cream. Sweet enough to satisfy every craving.

Summer BBQs, Family gatherings, Ladies Luncheons, Work Morning Teas, Christmas Parties all have one thing in common: You know that the Pav won’t last! Even the most average Pavlova is a hit. Everyone loves the melt-in-your-mouth sweetness of toasted meringue, slathered in full-dollop whipped cream and covered with tart, juicy fruits. You can take it for granted there won’t be any left when everyone leaves!

The Review:

I’ve had a few pavlova eliquids before and they bear an unmistakable resemblance to the real thing. There is just that perfect match of flavours that create that, and you just know it when you taste or smell it.

Unfortunately, “Pavlova” by Bunyip Vapes, just doesn’t quite get there in my opinion. Well, not the pavlova I remember, anyway.
You may have a different idea of what a pavlova should taste like of course and think I’m completely wrong, and that’s ok.
Lets not ignore the fact that there are a million variances of the dessert out there. Some use Kiwi, some don’t, some even use mandarin, and are more tropical in flavour. Some are more eggy, and some use different creams.

A pavlova in my book, should contain a sweet, sugary meringue base that carries throughout the entire flavour, with highlights of tart strawberry, kiwi, and other fruits, with a distinct dollop of whipped cream, a very complex mix of flavours that play on your senses and very obviously, layered over one another in a combination of complimentary flavours.

Missing the mark slightly on the Pavlova that I am familiar with, is not the end of the world because this is still a really really nice flavour.

“Pavlova” by Bunyip Vapes, to me, is an interesting balance of Kiwi, and Strawberry, with a light wavering earthy note of Passionfruit and an almost Cheesecake feel to the creams that make up the lower base notes.

Individual Notes

The fruits here are pretty good. The kiwi and strawberry are bright and tart, while being fruity sweet. Real fleshy notes. Each is distinct which is good, and lift the flavour as a whole just as intended.

I do not get much passionfruit here at all. Passionfruit is often a very earthy lower note that can sometimes muddy things up and tone down other flavours that it is mixed with, and I believe that is what has happened here. Rather than adding to the complexity of the fruits it takes a little brightness from them and seems to meld more with the creams than being a distinct note of it’s own.

I’m not noticing much of a meringue here either, which is a shame, as bumping this up a little would really have given more of a pavlova feel, instead it feels more like a cheesecake with a slightly tangy nuance, and an almost biscuit note rather than that familiar eggy, airy and light meringue consistancy.

The cream is here, and it works well. Again, a little more of the whipped cream coming through would have really helped set this one off.

Inhale & Exhale

On the inhale, the kiwi and strawberry are most noticeable with a light cream shining through. The fruits are sweet, tart and stand out quite well on their own, with the cream coming in toward the end of the inhale thickening the vape up a little and providing some texture.

At the beginning of the exhale is where the passionfruit, somewhere right at the back, folds in with an earthy note, that sort of dulls the middle of the vape, providing a bridge between the flavours, but also adding a strange feel to everything.

As the exhale continues, I pick up some tang, similar to how a cheesecake would, I feel like there is a touch of biscuit base coming through, but that could also just be the mix.

The cream intensifies toward the end of the exhale, driving the flavour home with its sweet and thick mouth feel, pulling everything together for a silky smooth finish.

Final thoughts

Despite the obvious fact that I didn’t find this to be the pavlova that I’m familiar with, it really is a nice flavour, after all I have been vaping it for the last 3 days. Every one of those days has been spent enjoying it and hoping that the pavlova just might suddenly appear, but it hasn’t.

If you’re after something a little different, that still stands up as a great dessert in it’s own right, give this one a crack, it’s a tasty juice.
